Lets Rock the Moor Saturday 16th May 2015

On the 16th May 2015 The Link Foundation will be attending Let’s Rock the Moor festival in Cookham, Berkshire as we have been chosen as a charity of choice for the 4th year running! This family friendly festival features a line-up of some fantastic acts from the 80’s such as Level 42, Rick Astley, Bucks Fizz. If you’d like to read more about what we do at the festival then below is what happened in 2014!

Last year’s event saw the The Link Foundation being chosen for the third year running as ‘charity of choice’ for a local festival in Cookham, Let’s Rock the Moor. It was the event’s sixth year and hosted by Pat Sharpe from Absolute 80’s Radio show. We saw a plethora of 80’s bands including Kim Wilde, Chas and Dave and T’pau.

The Link Foundation sold cakes, transferable tattoos, branded balloons & slap bands – which the children loved – along with running a tombola throughout the day. We had a huge amount of friends and family volunteering to help and we really cannot thank you all enough. It created a great atmosphere and it’s a pleasure to be part of such a wonderful festival. We raised much needed funds for local children who are in desperate need of basic essentials, and continued to raise awareness through our stalls and merchandise.

We would like to extend a huge thank you to Nick Billinghurst who organises this local event, for choosing The Link Foundation to once again be the charity of choice.

A Night at the Opera

A Night at the Opera was a wonderful Black Tie evening event with exceptional entertainment. This year we saw wonderful performances from Jennifer Brisk and Cristina Pharo who are both classically trained by Teresa Goble, an internationally renowned singer and teacher. We were also delighted to have Nigel Foster who is one of Britain’s leading accompanists and an Associate of the Royal Academy of Music. As if this line up wasn’t enough, Hollie Steele who some of you may remember from ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ made a guest appearance. Hollie came 5th in the 2009 finals and at only 14 years old, she is a huge talent who has to be seen, to be believed.

Joanna Baker was the host for the evening and everyone was sat comfortably with wine and cheese in hand, ready for the evening to commence at 7:30pm.

The evening began with Cristina and Jennifer singing ’Marriage of Figaro’ by Mozart, a play by Beaumarchai.

Cristina and Jennifer also sang classics like ‘Doretta’s Dream’ aria from the opera La Rondine, by Puccini and the famous ‘Habanera’ from the opera Carmen, by Bizet. Another very well know duet was the Flower Duet, from the opera Lakme, by Leo Delibes. This opera was made famous by British Airways! Cristina and Jennifer’s duets were beautiful, including one encore at the end of the night that had everyone in stiches.

Hollie sang the beautiful and famous ‘Ave Maria’ by Bach Gounod and ‘O Mio Babbino’ from the opera Ghianni Schicchi by Puccini, bringing most of the audience to tears! All in all, this evening exceeded everyone’s expectations and we cannot wait for the next.

We would like to say a special thank you to Cristina Pharo who is the organiser of this event. Without Cristina this evening wouldn’t have happened. We raised a total of £1512 from ticket sales and nibbles during the evening for The Link Foundation, which will be used to help local children in the community.

A huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported this event, and keep your eyes peeled for the next one!!
